Green Lantern's Super

Is Green Lantern's Super supposed to not have armor? Every other character that I've seen has a fair amount of armor when their Super initiates. But GL's doesn't seem to. Is this intentiional? His Super's relatively slow, too, so there's a good amount of time to interrupt him.
