Going from reddit, I know I'm not alone when I say that there's a problem with how abilities are unlocked. Leveling up a single character to 20 will only net you two (at random) abilities. From there on your only route for getting other abilities for that character is locked behind motherboxes. Having a gameplay option for a character locked behind a rng is one thing but when you stop to consider that there are 29 characters in total (as of writing) in the game with each of them having around 5 abilities on top of that, the chances of getting an ability you actually want are beyond slim. Let alone taking into consideration how rare they are to begin with.
I'm here to ask if there is a better, more reasonable, way to go about this system? Like, while the character level cap can remain at 20, you still unlock an ability every single time a set interval of exp or match wins are completed? Or maybe certain skill challenges that can be met to unlock them individually? Possibly even spending source crystals or credits on them. I mean something more concrete like these routes so basic gameplay features aren't walled off like this.
As it stands now, I've opened well over 1000 motherboxes plus have played as a single character non-stop and still have only unlocked 3 of his abilities thus far. At this rate, I just don't think it's in me to fully complete this character, let alone the others. Gear is one thing but abilities are gameplay elements entirely. They shouldn't be this unreasonably hard to obtain. Let alone completely by chance.
