Good idea, Stranger. I think I'll leave some info about Shadow of Mordor Imports.

Before you start Shadow of War, you can pick a Nemesis and Follower from Shadow of Mordor, the first game. I would recommend doing this (if you haven't already), as it makes the game a little more interesting (although it is not necessary). I'll list some things you should know about picking a Nemesis and Follower.

Nemesis: a good Nemesis should NOT have any fears. If you plan on dominating him after (and if) he cheats death (because yes, you are forced to kill him when you meet him in SOW), you should know that this fear will carry over to Shadow of War, making him pretty useless. NOTE: If you're unsatisfied with the appearance/class/traits of your Nemesis, exit the story mission and start it up again. Repeat until you're happy with his looks and everything.

Follower: unlike with your Nemesis, it doesn't matter if your Follower has a Fear of something, so if you found a really cool looking dude with overall good stats that you wanted to import into SOW, but he's ruined by a single little fear, don't worry. It doesn't carry over to SOW. As with your Nemesis, if you don't like the appearance/class/stats of your Follower when you get to that point in the story, exit the mission and start it up again. His stats and all that stuff will be "re-rolled". You must make sure that he at LEAST has no "Dazed By" weakness or Mortal Weaknesses, so keep "re-rolling" his stats and everything by restarting the mission until he's perfect (Slayers, Tanks and Berserkers are considered some of the best classes).

I would tell you what story missions you can find these guys in, but I think I'll leave it as a surprise. But if you REALLY wanna know, send me a private message.

Some ways to gain mirian and gems.

    •  Treasure orcs are marked as white on the mini map, see one go get it.
    • Appoint a mauarder overlord, this will spawn extra treasure orcs in a region.
    • This will also mean chests which can be plundered will be added to forts and outposts, look out for these in your own marauder regions and any in online conquests or vendettas.
    • Equip marauder legendary gear, these all increase the drop rate of mirian by a fair amount.
    • Kill as many captains as you can and sell the gear, seems obvious but selling gear will be a real revenue stream.
    • Sell any spare legendary gear you don't need for big mirian gains.
    • Target treasure ologs, they will either have a decent gem or 1000 mirian, so see one kill it.
    • Complete the daily challenges as often as you can, these will often reward mirian and gems.
    • Buy and equip the 'Prospecter' sub ability on the the 'Treasure Hunter' skill in the skill tree, this will drop higher value gems from treasure orcs.

    Hi there

    good idea

New players should keep in mind that we all have different playstyles and playstyles can change once they get the special gear for completing the game.

Some things I find extremely useful:

Put attention to tutorials! and read the descriptions!

Interrogate worms to know the weaknsses of the captains you will fight.

Elements like poison, curse, fire, etc can damage captains but this elements can enrage captains too and they become extremely deadly.

I don't use elements unless I know that a captain is weak to it.

Legendary Outlaw armor reduces 55% damage from enraged enemies, extremely useful.

Elf shot is needed for many atacks and skill and movements on combat, activate the skill to drain enemis on the ground or equip gear that gets you elf shot with executions such as swords or with stealth kills such as daggers.

Always keep at least two elf shot just for an emergency, with shadow strike or shadow dominate you can escape a fight fast.

Use gems, read the description to it: green : heal, white: in armor more xp, in weapons more mirian, reds: more damage.

If a captain is too strong, level up, get better skills and gear and come back later and use his weaknesses!

Complete daily and weekend challenges, thise will get you lot of mirian, gems, chests with powerful training orders.

BEfore attacking a fortress to conquer it: do the side quests to fight the captains protecting it, and dominate every single captain you come across!  with this you remove the defenses of the fortress and you get an army to attack that fortress!

Be very conscious of your strengths and weaknesses, know when to retreat and heal.

    Most importantly, have fun :)

I'll update if I think of something else.

Nice guide, Steward. I would also like to add that killing a captain who is armed with a specific elemental weapon will also often result in that captain dropping a piece of gear with that element. I've had several pieces of poison related gear drop from Poisonous captains, cursed related gear from Cursed captains, and fire related gear from Fiery captains.

    Raising you captains levels:

    • Training orders can be purchased and used to raise 1 and 5 levels, this is the quickest and most risk free way of gaining levels.
    • Taking captains into conquest mission offline and ranked online conquests will gain them levels, they will also gain levels if they kill an enemy captain in that conquest, this is a risk though as captains run the risk of being killed.
    • Send captains into pit fights when you have conquered a region, this is especially useful if you pay close attention to the weaknesses of the enemy captain, again though this runs the risk of losing the captain
    • Nemesis missions are the easiest way to gain levels as a captain can gain a few levels for a trial by ordeal and anything between 1 to 20 levels on a captain vs captain mission depending on the difference between your captain and the enemy one, these will something pop up automatically but are best used by setting them up yourself.

How to exploit nemesis missions for easy levels.

First you will need an enemy captain of a high level that has a 'terrified' trait such as terrified by graug, caragors, fire etc that you have the ability to exploit, with this you can easily game the system to jump low level captains 20 levels at a time, simply select the captain you want to level up and send them on a kill mission against the captain who is terrified and go to the mission take part and set off that terrified trait by either using the element they fear or summoning the beast they fear.

After that let them escape and repeat as many time as you want for easy levels, this can also work with some captains that will retreat from fights, tricksters often do this as do some assassins, so if you lack an enemy captain who is easily terrified try out a few of there types and see if they retreat easy and exploit that the same way, some may even have the tricky escape trait that will mean they will escape when nearly killed which is also useful. Whichever you choose just make sure to keep them alive for as long as possible, this tactic is best used for gaining levels late in the game, especially for shadow wars in regions you have not kept up to date.

Thanks for starting an awesome thread !

how do i get Starclaimer I want this rune sooo bad :(

I only know of one thing thats probably super obvious already but i dont select an element for elven light it still kills but more importantly is it stuns and then u can knock them down for a ground execution. U can do this several times as long as u dont do it to where they adapt you have to play mix up in attacks basically. Theres a certain amount of seconds where the ai will not adapt if you keep mixing up your moves. Btw this stuns ologs for 3 sec ive noticed which makes good openings.

Grunts and iron guard arent good but they are more like crowd control and iron guard can stealth kill enemies. They(iron guard) can also stealth attack a captain.

How do you obtain loot from a friendly conquest? I did several tonight and received no loot. Tried recruiting followers into garrison too, none were there.
Have you actually done it or just a theoretical farming method?

Dropped loot (Inventory Items) from dead Captains returns with you roughly 30% of the time post ranked or friendly Seige or Vendetta.   Captains you recruit during Friendly sieges DO NOT return with you post Siege.   As a result of this 30% 'success' rate in returned items, it is recommended you recruit those you may otherwise kill during these events - then grind them in Garrisson for their inventory item.

Captains recruited during ranked Sieges or Vendettas return with you 95% of the time - assuming they are not killed (or if killed not resurrected) during these Missions.    Recruting duplicates (either 2 of the same in the ranked Seige or one or more already exist in Garrisson)  and having them return with you post Seige is more problematic.   It works (most times) for those Captains who existed in BoG DLC, but for non BOG Captains it rarely works.   Captains that do return with you from Vendettas/ranked Sieges are rarely if ever identified with the 'dot' in Garrison (dot signifying new Captains).   In those cases where recruited Captains are identified (5% of the time), in most of these cases only some of them are id'ed with the dot, most are not.

So I have a 30% chance to get loot from friendly stronghold seiges including my own fortress? Is that chance per captain or per siege? Or am I misunderstanding?

Also, how would I grind captains in the garrison if they don't return from friendly seiges?

Sorry for so many questions, I'm just getting back into the game after stalling out on shadow wars when it first released. Just trying to get back up to speed so I can go into Ranked conquests with a nice gear set.

The success rate in returning Inventory items from friendly Sieges is higher then ranked, I'd say it's 65% (and ranked is 20%).   Because I do much more ranked sieges then friendly, it averages out to be 30%, lol.   And this is per siege, not per Captain.    Either all items dropped return with you or none do, it's not a 'well some items came back and others didn't in the same Siege'.   And all my 'friendly' sieges are atacking my own fort to test out her defenses after slotting in new Captains.   That's my experience anyway, I haven't heard what others have to say on this.   I'm on Xbox One.

Also, the myriam/gems gathered during Vendettas and Sieges sometimes don't return with you - and this is really annoying, especially with Vendettas.   Some Vendettas I carry out just to mine gems/myriam, so after spending 30 minutes to anhour in one going crazy with Marauder gear, you get nothing from your efforts post Mission.    During the Vendetta you can check your gems and sure enough you see the new ones in there (and Myriam appending to your base pre-Mission amount), but post Vendetta the gems and collected Myriam are gone, you are left with the amount you had pre-Vendetta.   I've even tried grinding inventory items during Vendettas/ranked Sieges that are collected during these missions - but post Vendetta/Siege it is not counted, as if it never happened.

You can't access your Garrisson during Vendettas or Sieges (it's locked),  and as previously mentioned, those Captains you recruit during Friendly Sieges do not return with you after the mission.    So you cannot grind what doesn't exist.

To track this, I always know the total number of Garissoned Orcs pre ranked Seige or Vendetta.   Mine is generally 399 (any higher and you won't be able to retain any recruited Captains post ranked Siege/Vendetta).

Lets say I complete a ranked Siege and recruit 12 unique (non duplicate) Captains (I note each recruited captain by level, class and first name).  A quick chek of my Garrisson (by adding each row's totals) should then show a total of 411 post ranked Seige.  Most times it does, if all are unique (no duplicates other than BOG guys).    Sometimes it doesn't and this is where it can get complicated.    There can be a 'synching' problem with your Garrisson, and the total number (that shown from the Garrisson Menu' does not equal the actual number in your Garrisson (total of each row once you navigate into the Garrison).    I've had discrpepancies of 10 or so between these numbers, where the Garrisson total may show 418 while the 'actual' number is 410.    These conflicts fix themselves by Fast Travelling to another region, but if you don't they can linger and be an irritant.  This is especially annoying when you know you have 398 actuals in Garrison but the Garrisson total shows 401 (preventing you from recruiting any more).     And as mentioned, duplicates can be an issue and compounding it all is there is rarely if ever any 'dot' beside new captains, forcing you to search for them and grind or whatever.

Thank you for your in depth replies.

It should be fairly easy for me to track my number in garrison, currently I only have 5. :smileysurprised:

On the note of having loot come back from friendly conquests, will it drop after you kill a captain like in normal play, or does it all show up in the after action screen? From the friendly conquests I've done I did not have any loot drop from the captains themselves or in my after action report. Should I know after my first captain if I will get loot or do I have to play through the whole siege?

In regards to item 3, lets say you want a legendary feral sword that also has a 10% critical hit chance.xa0 If you have only one legendary feral slayer, don't kill him.xa0 Capture him and put him in your fort.xa0 Then do friendly fort conquests.xa0 Instead of getting one sword from killing him in the open world, you can now kill him over and over and get as many gear pieces as you want.xa0

Can you clarify this? If you putxa0an orc in your own fort, doesn't that mean attacking your own fort to farm him? Is that what you mean by friendly fort conquest? I tried attacking my own fort recently and none of my orcs dropped gear so was wondering if I'm understanding this correctly.

Still no success obtaining loot from a friendly conquest against my own fort. I have completed shadow wars, but have not started BoG or DoM and still have a few slaughter and outlaw missions in each reason. Do I need to complete more of the game or am I just terribly unlucky?
On the other hand I have been able to get loot from vendettas and ranked conquest every time, with the exception of a legendary vendetta target that did not drop loot for me on one occassion.

I did 2 friendly Sieges against players who asked me to attack them today (Xbox One), each in a different region.  No inventory items returned, despite many dropped by dead captains.     Carried out 4 ranked Sieges spread across 2 regions, in 1 of them the items returned, the other 3 nada.   I also had in 1 ranked Siege a few non-duplicate recruited Captains not return with me while others in that same seige did.   In another ranked Siege I had 5 of the 7 flagged with the dot in Garrisson, the others not.   In the other 3 ranked seiges none were identified with the dots.

Based on my experience, I'd say you are unlucky - but keep trying.  I did 3 friendly attacks on my own fort\ (in 1 region) a few days agao and in all but 1 did the dropped gear not show.    It's funny how it works - I can do 4 ranked Sieges in a row and in every one of them the items return, then go 10 in a row with nothing.   I barely take notice anymore if they don't show up - I assume they don't so that's why I reruit most I can that are broken, then grind them post Siege.  If the items return I just look at it as a 'bonus', as most times they do not (in my experience).
