No Warchiefs + Captains in Online Conquests

This has been a recurring problem in the game since Day 1.   When this happens, you can still call in your BG Follower to help on that first point.  After you recruit a few of the Fort's Captains you can send your BG away, and by the time you reach the Throne room it may be recharched to call him in again, if needed.    What I have noticed in terms of change between Day 1 and the July patch (or a version just before it), is that I no longer get a percentage of Followers showing up in Sieges.   It is now an all or nothing thing.    Before, it could be anywhere between 0 to all 6 show up.   At least you also have your supporting grunts and beasts. The 'toughest' point is that first one, so call in your BG, your own Beast (drake or graug), raise some deadites, shadow strike into firepits to bring in spiders (or ghouls), drop bait, etc and check around for any broken enemy Captains on other points who you can brand and have join your side.

I don't expect this to ever be fixed, just anticipate it and change your strategy accordingly.   I'd say it happens in roughly ~5% of sieges

I appreciate your suggestions on how to get through a conquest sans warchiefs. I'm not going to jump through a bunch of hoops and spend all that time trying to conquer a fortress. Isn't worth it for me.

It's really up to the developers to fix this bug. It's been reported and they haven't responded as they should. The number of bugs this game has is a joke and doesn't reflect well on both WB Games and the developer. It's a substandard product, no two ways about it.

Fair enough, and I can't disagree with your last comment either, something I continually bring up.    That being said, imo the game is still very fun (both haha funny and entertainingly so).  Art design, sound effects, capture events, scripts, actors, action sequences, etc all top notch.   I'm now over 1800 hours of play (lol) and still hear new dialog, amazing.

Yeah, I agree that game is very fun and well done for all the reasons you stated. If it were otherwise, I would have stopped playing the game long ago. I'm also over 1000 hours including the three difficulty levels I've played at.

The first time I played the game, I was 50 hours into it when I had to delete the game because a bug prevented me from purifying a Haedir so I couldn't progress any further. That was 50 hours wasted and that wasn't the only instance where I wasted my time because of a bug or six. I've lost well over 100 hours because of bugs.

Back to the original topic, I started an online conquest in Gorgoroth just recently, and once again, no warchiefs or captains bothered to show up. I've played around 5 onlne conquest since I first posted my original message about this bug so that's twice in 5 or 6 online conquests that this has happened. That makes the percentage this bug occurs more like 16% - 20% in this instance. That's unacceptable. I agree with your earlier estimate that it usually happens ~5% of the time but twice in just a handful of games is bad. This really pisses me off makes me even more leery of doing online conquests

My frustation with all these bugs has built up over time, beginning with the 50 hours I lost when I started playing. As fun as this game can be, I'm getting fed up with all the continual issues that have no end in sight. Shadow of Mordor had relatively minor bugs that were fixed in a timely manner. This game is the exact opposite. Monolith did great work on Shadow of Mordor but their work on Shadow of War has been sloppy and unprofessional. They've been negilgent in addressing so many issues with the game. This game is absolutely the most bug-ridden game I've ever played.

    Hey Citizen9

I read through the whole forum and I'm sorry that the bugs have been difficult for you. I am glad to read that the game was able to give you over 1000 hours of enjoyment. That's impressive.

Anyway, I'll put the help links again under here. Before that, I'll explain our bug fixing system a bit so you can have some more context.

    1. Player gets bug and either decides to report the bug, or push through the bug

    2. Player reports bug and it goes to team.

    3. Player indicates interest in recieving human help or simply reporting bug.

    4. Team looks at ticket and then categorizes it.

    5. Depending on how many tickets we recieve in a cateogory AND how severe the bug is, Live Team is dispatched to try and reproduce the bug in a game.

    6. Bug is either reproduced or not. If it IS NOT reproduced, Live team waits to get more tickets to explain the bug. If the bug IS reproduced they write up a report on how they got it.

    7. That info is sent to QA and Engineering and potentially Design. They look at the bugs that come in and organize them based upon severity. A bug that could erase a save or completely stop a player (blockers) are worked on first.

    8. Engineers/Design look into the code to see if they can find what caused the bug and try to fix it.

    9. They either find a potential fix or they don't. If they don't, they wait for more tickets to figure out the bug. If they do, they then send the fix to QA to be tested.

    10. QA tests the fix and if the fix caused any other changes. If it causes changes they report back and the team decides if it is okay to have those changes, if not they try to find another fix.

    11. Cycle continues.

    12. We arrive at a fix and it gets listed into the Patch. Engineering prepares the patch.

    13. QA then tests the patch. Same cycle of test and send back if there were changes.

    14. Patch is signed off.

    15. Then it goes into a bunch more stuff related to Steam, Microsoft, Sony etc. Those could all be steps to infinity after this :).

Anyway, some tickets stop at the number 5 category. They get categorized but only 1 player has this bug, and it may be a crazy bug but the team is going to focus on the most players. It is possible the tickets are unclear. It is possible that a bigger bug is currently being hunted.

    Many different reasons.

I've had a few back to back sessions where no Followers appear in Sieges or 4 over a few days of playing, but then get  a string of a few dozen without any.   So my experiences are identical to yours.   I had a pattern going where most times where none would show it would be in the first siege of a region newly visited, or the first siege during my current play session.   But I have had them in the middle of a long stretch of ranked Sieges in the same region, so it's not a definitive thing.

Shadow of Mordor was a much less complicated game compared to SoW, both for its online components and offline.  Almost every aspect has been enhanced with many new features added.  The amount of bugs, many of which were game stoppers, particulary the PC version. still inherent in the game at launch was indicative of a rushed release.   A number of these bugs, including the collapsing wall in Sieges which outright killed one of your unlucky Followers, would/should have been easily caught by a tester prior to launch, ditto with the spider instant kill But it is what it is, and continues to be.   I share your frustration, just imagine how great of a game it could have been if it was more polished and less buggy.

     - Thanks for the explanation on how bugs are addressed. Good to know. Also, thanks for the links. This bug popped up again while playing an online conqeust in Gorgoroth so that make it 3x in the 8 conquests I've played in the past 5 days. Given the increased frequency that this bug is recurring, I'm compelled to report it.

The attached image shows the Gorgoroth conquest mentioned. The screenshot was taken just a few seconds after the siege began. As you can see, there are no higher ranked orcs as Talion's army is attacking the fort. Just Talion and his grunt army. The defending captains and warchief can be seen clearly in the background just past the front gate.

Don't mean to be so down on Monolith. It's just that the bugs can be frustrating. More so after dealing with them for many months. A game (or anything else) is only as good as its weakest link. Shadow of War excels in so many aspects but bugs are definitely this game's weakest link.

    Thanks, again.

     - I realize this is a far more complex game, hence, more potential for bugs.

I brought up the latest instance of this bug happening again in my reply to . I've never had it happen so frequently as it has lately (3x in 8 conquests over the past 5 days).

I took your previous advice and fought through the bug in the latest instance (only because there were enemy warchiefs I wanted to add to my army). I summoned my bodyguard and was able to take the victory points by dominating enemy warchiefs and captains along the way. Luckily, the captains weren't all that hard to defeat so it wasn't as difficult as it might have been. But it's still a pain in the rump having to build an army on the fly as you go though the fortress. It isn't something I want to do again.
