I don't think you can force it.

Certain ambushes can be forced such as getting legendary scar's on captains.. but you can only Force one of each legendary scar captain...

Special scars are a different matter, some requires certain dialogue from orcs to make a special scar captain.. these take time ...and plenty of orcs

In my experience, Cheat death ambushes usually occur if I have had a few different experiences with an orc. Shame them, get killed by them, have them retreat, you retreat, etc. If you keep them around for a while and keep interacting with them, when they finally snuff it they usually come back. Could just be coincidence but it could be worth a try!

It definitely does work I've got one orc who hasn't killed me but because I kept using him as a target for nemesis missions to level up my captains and taking advantage of his fears to make him retreat for an easy victory it's caused some interesting stuff to happen. Because of that repeat interaction despite not killed me he's now cheated death twice, changed name from Ugol the Pot-Licker to the Uncatchable and has a wooden leg and a bag head.

    - This is great! I'm excited to try it! Because what I've been doing hasn't been working.

Just remember nothing is ever guaranteed, you can do things to make certain things more likely but it might not work every time and maybe not always in the manner you expect.

would being set on a higher difficulty possibly up the chances?

It'd be worth a try, depends what you are playing on now and what you are going to change it too but it would be worth a shot.

In my observation, few ways to trigger it is fast travel on your fort, free a caragor from your fort, ride it and run around with it it.

It happened to me more than 5 times when I do that I should say.

Does the probability increase with higher difficulty? What about brutal?
