It also makes me wish/hope we can use the different characters in the main campaign one day. Baranor was fun as hell to play as. I honestly wouldn't mind seeing a part two to his adventure.

It's kinda a speedrun or something similar to that. I got about 84000 score on my first play. Big number but maybe it's not that high. But not gonna bother trying to get a high score tho, just enjoying the gameplay

I don't like the permadeath thingy, i would like to have the option to complete it normally, if die, continue from last checkpint

it would be great to be able to block ranged attacks like arrows or spears with the shield, i mean, it's a shield

the new region is really cool, i was afraid of a lifeless dull desert but this is great, boneyard, some vegetation, very cool ruins, the sandstorms are a great detail, the new weapons and tools, i love them, soooo badass

    and the badass Haradrim

i find the enemies in this dlc more dangerus and deadly than in base game,

the performance is way better now thanks to the update

and there are a few bugs, Baranor gets inside some wood structures and he gets stuck and i have to exit

I’m sure they said why Idril wasn’t here on one of the streams but I think she’s just off somewhere else while baranor came to take this fort and get a little foothold in Mordor.

yes, "she is out there somewhere else" ok, mmmm right..

not a very good explanation, in the main story we see she and Baranor stay together, now they are not together

    anyway, nothing can change now,

Yeah I mean I’m not saying “she’s off doing her own thing” is a good explanation it’s just about the only thing they gave us to go off of.

It is mentioned in her bio in Desolation of Mordor what she is doing she was off to find some hidden refuge with the survivors they had rounded up, I forget the name of the place at the moment. She also is mentioned a couple of times so it's not like they forgot she existed.

don't think baranor and eltariel wouldn't work in the free roam of the main game cause it's made for talions skills. a character select before each fort assault/defense would work tho. taking the fort as baranor was a lot of fun. he'd be the only character i'd use if there was an option to select characters for fort assaults

They would work just fine, since the characters are able to roam around freely, with Eletrial capable of visiting and fighting in every area that Talion can. Baranor would take some work but I think people wouldn't mind the time. The only problem is that we wouldn't be able to recruit orcs, but everything else should work fine. Hell I wouldn't mind a 'freedom mode' where all the areas are clear, everything is at max, and the characters can explore.

Eltariel and Baranor would work fine, they would have their own skills, not Talion's skills

Now that you mentioned it, I am pretty sure they did say that Idril was off in Henneth Annun, even though she seemed pretty adamant about staying and fighting in Mordor baranor must have persuaded her and went off to get help in Lithlad.

Not died yet, so close a few times but not yet. Digging it so far. Baranor is a beast with all of torvins upgrades. Even more so with a fully upgraded rally cry. The worms are cool. The region is excellent. Totally diggin zipping around the map with essentially batman.

I'll repost this once more into a livelier thread:
    ~
Bravissimo Monolith! Desolation of Mordor is so much closer to the game I've wanted to play this entire time! Permadeath, no superpowers, the universal lethality of Brutal, Baranor's refined upgrades, the Honor Guard - it's easily the best content Shadow of War has. Please take this lead going forward, and of course, if you could play as an orc, recruited orcs, were even more tied to the ground, the permadeath mode requiring rerolling and with a stable setting reflecting many generations, and dominated others with the righteous strength of your pimp hand, well... I'd buy the Mithril edition of the next game too!
Much love and respect despite the constant requests.

    ~
Anyway, those are my thoughts. I *love* Brutal difficulty.

I'm really digging the chained shots you can pull off after a stealth kill that is totally nothing like Arkham Knight fear takedown, not at all, I don't know why I even mentioned it, it's a really handy way of just clearing some space and turning one kill into many, plus the little animation of it happening is brilliant, fair place to whoever came up with that.

I've gone through it three time twice on nemesis and once on brutal and it's fun on whatever difficulty, brutal at the end I had found so many useful augments so I was one shoting every captain with stealth attacks (an augment that gave me 300% bonus stealth damage in exchange for half my health, I took that deal) I spent most of that playthrough doing hti and run guerrilla attacks just dropping from the kite and then bugging out as quick as possible.

It is a lot of fun. And those stealth chains are even better when you have an augment that makes their head explodes and another one that returns your minutions. You can also do after an excecution if you excecute a grunt by the way, which is hilarious. Now, if you also have an augment that gives you focus for your ranged hits, you can drop in, stab on guy, shoot ten more, decapitate another, and shoot ten more, if there is ten more that is.

Also, people are talking about putting characters from the DLC in the base game, and as per Eltariel I'm all for it (I wouldn't make her dominate though) but Baranor is obviously far too imbalanced for the main game.

Alternatively, we just need more trail of wars mode where perhaps you can even pick your character.

Played the DLC for the first time last night, a good chunnk of time as well.   On Nemesis the first run.   Am maybe 1/3 the way through getting all my skill points, completed 2 Main Missions, got killed once accidentally on purpose early on by testing a worm's range (and yes their range was within where I was standing), got about 1/2 my Numenorian weapon upgrades, etc.   My initial thoughts are very positive.  Good voice acting and scripts by the main characters, decent developing story, great visuals/sound effects (as usual), TONS of grunts/enemies (waves upon waves of them), very slick, new and unique Mercenary traits/abilities, Barinor's attack mechanics and tools, new and improved Nemesis system re Outpost defence, etc.    Nice that you don't have to worry about Betrayals and Rebellions nor whether you should brand a this or that Follower - just kill anything that is non-human.   Pretty straight forward, non-complicated decision.

I did run into a few bugs though, which I will post on the Support page when I've finished with the DLC.  These include  Merc Bodyguard becoming perma-frozen as a result of a Barinor Frost augment , mass spawning of Grunts in the enemy Fort which resulted dozens upon dozens of augments (in effect farming for them).   Some minor visual glitches too.   I also feel the balance could have been better.   Barinor becomes wayyy too OP pretty quickly with all his augments/abilities to the point you're pretty much in God mode.  He'd do just fine in the Main Game imo and give Tallion a good run for his Myriam and head count.   I'd also like to see an ability to replace / swap out Augments on his items.  Currently once you max the slots out you can do nothing with any new ones other then scrapping for $$$.   They should have designed this akin to SoM slots, where you can replace those already slotted with new/improved ones you gather as you progress through the game.   During the farming of Grunts scenario, I obtained at least 2 dozen of those slotted augments, quickly filling up 2 of my items and gaining 4-6 in the others.   I didn't realize you couldn't swap them out until my first weapon's list was maxed, so now that I've gotten some legendary augments I have no opportunity to use them.

Should also mention that I've had one of my Merc Bodyguards killed (on purpose) by another of my Merc Bodyguards. Both were Enraged (Injury enragement) and the Epic Archer Merc just unloaded arrow after arrow into the same-levelled (32) Common Merc BG.    A number of augments also provides health to your Followers, and they too become pretty much God Mode like yourself when it's in play (unless one of your guys unloads on him so fast his Health replenish rate can't keep up).   Those Concussion/Fire/Poison bombs/blasts should also be toned down a bit.  They are too powerful against enemies and using them with a lot of Ologs around you can never run out of them and just adds to your already formidable abilities.

That was kind of my point Baranor becomes much stronger than Talion which is fine the DLC but not in the base game. They would have to revamp how he works entirely or get rid of augments for him to be in the main game whereas with Eltariel it's not much of an issue at all. It's essentially the same as playing the BoG but you get to play with "your own Orcs" around.

As for balance, I agree for nemesis you become a God. Nevertheless, I think it's a lot of fun. I even played two times on easy and it's still a lot of fun. I'm trying Gravewalker now and I died a couple of times. I had to get used to gravewalker first so I died pretty quickly on the first run. Then I died before I killed even one Captain because the first Captain I tried to kill was crazy. He just killed my follower instantly and I fought him for a bit but he got the better of me too, or well a grunt did. Just now I got pretty far in with some good upgrades but I felt nowhere near a God, plus there's always that "one dead and its over" (though there is augments to prevent that, like autohealing and whatnot). But I got caught ofguard by a grunt and died. Ironically, it was right after I completed the fight (went to assault a warchief with 4 bodyguards to get some good augments). They all perished >=) It was intense.

Just now I restarted and this Captain grabbed me while I was trying to hook away and catapult myself. They do this often, but this time they didn't just tell me to "stand over here!" They had a machine hook, and it killed me. (I'd say essentially Baranor tore himself in half but that's not what the game showed :P)

    I added an image.

Furthermore, appearently most people actually play on normal (I think this was said in one of the streams). So for them the DLC is probably actually quite hard.

But yeah, by the end of playing nemesis I'm just instagibbing stealth killing Captains. Mortally vulnerable to stealth? Everyone!

I have no idea all I know is Jared said they will be retaken if you leave them empty for three turns (one on gravewalker?). I think it's not an event but they just spawn there.

If you want to farm Captains this is probably a good way to do it. Although on lower difficulties I'd just do one warchief mission and then forward time to kill random Captains in the fort + the warchief + his bodyguards.

You don't defend it per say, you simply don't put one of your own Merc Captains in that slot.  In 3 turns (on Nemesis) the Outpost reverts back to Orc control.   That enables you /  your allies (BG's) can attack it again, infinitum if you so desire.    Once you slot a Captain into an Outpost via the Army Screen, you can only move them from one Outpost slot to another Outpost slot.  They can't become one of yoru BG's, they can't be removed back to the Open World, and you can't send them on Missions.   In effect, they are lost to you and the game (so only place really crummy ones in there).    Now I haven't finished the game yet, so things may change when that point is reached in terms of being able to do something with them other then placeholders.

Why can't we stay in Lithlad as Baranor after the end?
we can only restart and loose the progress
it takes time to get all upgrades and skills and then game over, wtf

At what point is the end game reached?   Once you take the fort?  There is no backtracking once you start the Fort Siege (unless you 'Quit Mission out of it?"), there's no turning back, the game will end once u defeat the Overlord?     The only option at that point is to restart a new game with a clean slate?

i was going to try and take amerc from an outpost later. Makes sence you cant I guess in the smaller "slice" of content.
The structure of the outposts, with the addition of removable captains, would be a good addition to the base game.
Well, offto finish my first run then 🙂
